
Master Black Belt Training Program
Role of the Master Black Belt
Master Black Belts are the technical leaders who support and mentor the efforts of the
Black Belts and Green Belts.
This is a critical role in the ongoing success of a Six Sigma deployment.
Master Black Belts also lead the larger process improvement projects, including those that involve
multiple departments, facilities, or businesses. In addition, they assume responsibility for training the
follow on waves of Black Belts and Green Belts.
The Master Black Belt will assist in Black Belt and Green Belt selection, Champion selection, training
and support. He/She must also lead the Executive Training as well
as project selection. The Master Black Belt must also be
responsible for generating and maintaining a project backlog, removing barriers and serving as a technical
resource for management. The participation in annual planning and development of new and existing tools
is also required. In addition, the Master Black Belt will continually benchmark other Six Sigma Companies
to ensure their deployments include the latest strategies for success.
Program Objectives
- To prepare an organization's best Black Belts to become Master Black Belts
- Understand the Six Sigma strategy and tools in depth
- Learn how to support Green Belts and Black Belts during their initial training project and on an ongoing basis
- Become proficient at transferring knowledge to adult learners, including Six Sigma Black Belt, Green Belt, Champion and Executive training
- Develop communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of an organization
Program Description
This course is for certified Black Belts who want to upgrade their skills
to the Master Black Belt level. Prerequisites include Black Belt certification by a recognized program and
successful completion of an entrance exam on topics covered in the Black Belt course. The program
consists of a Master Black Belt project, co-teaching and supporting a wave of Black Belts. In addition, personal
development, including 5 days of material not included in the Black Belt course, is required Successful
candidates will become fully certified Master Black Belts.
