Project Selection
Role of the Champion in project selection:
Six Sigma executives and champions own project selection.
They are responsible for selecting projects that have a clear line of sight to the organization's
objectives and for maintaining a backlog of these projects. Along with the financial controller,
the champion is also responsible for estimating the financial benefits of these projects.
Other responsibilities include the selection and support of the Black Belts
and Green Belts during projects and ensuring that improvements
are implemented, and that controls are in place to sustain the gains.
Program Objectives:
Develop an understanding of the following:
- Champion's role in Project selection
- Identification of Six Sigma projects from high level problems and issues
- Scoping projects
- Writing project statements
- Choosing project metrics
- Setting project goals and realizing financial benefits
- Review of the Six Sigma tools and methodology
Program / Course Description:
Good project selection is critical to a successful Six Sigma implementation.
Unfortunately this is also one of the most difficult and often unsuccessful responsibilities a champion performs.
This two day course is a necessity for individuals who are involved in identifying and mentoring Six Sigma projects.
The course outlines the necessary steps in taking a loosely defined problem to an "actionable level"
that a Black Belt or Green Belt
can go work on. Attendees are provided guide lines for generating project statements, identifying metrics
and setting project goals and are given the opportunity to practice on problems that exit within their
own companies. The Roles of a champion are also discussed regarding the creation of a strong Six Sigma culture
for the Black Belt and Green Belt to participate in.
This course can be combined with Datazinc's standard champion tools course both of which can be completed
in 3 consecutive days.
